In May, we recognise CF Awareness Month

At Cystic Fibrosis Australia, our commitment extends far beyond a single month. Every day, we work to raise awareness, advocate for change, and respond to the evolving needs of people living with cystic fibrosis and their families.

While significant progress has been made in recent years, particularly through the introduction of new modulators and other treatments, it is important to recognise that these advances have not benefited everyone equally. Many people in the CF community still face barriers to access, are not eligible for available therapies, or do not experience the same outcomes.

Working in close collaboration with our state and territory members through the Cystic Fibrosis Federation, we are committed to ensuring every person with cystic fibrosis can access the care, treatment, and support that best meets their individual circumstances, no matter where they live in Australia.

Our focus remains on improving quality of life across the lifespan, while continuing to support research and progress toward a future free from CF.

Throughout May, we invite you to follow Cystic Fibrosis Australia on our website and social media channels as we share 30 days of new information, stories, insights, and ways to support the CF community.

Strength in Community reflects the power of connection, collaboration, and collective action. By working together, we can continue to raise awareness, influence policy, expand access to care, and create meaningful change for everyone affected by cystic fibrosis.

65 Roses day

On 29 May, we will mark 65 Roses Day, a special day of awareness, hope, and community for everyone affected by cystic fibrosis.

The term 65 Roses has become a powerful symbol of CF, representing strength, resilience, and the voices of children and families living with the condition.

We invite everyone to join us on this important day as we raise awareness, honour the CF community, and show support for all those impacted by cystic fibrosis.

Federation Activities during CF Awareness Month

During CF Awareness Month, Cystic Fibrosis Australia proudly works in collaboration with our  Federations to deliver a coordinated national program of awareness and community engagement activities.

These events highlight the strength of our community while raising awareness, fostering connection, and supporting people affected by cystic fibrosis across Australia.

Strength in Community: The CFA Campaign

Throughout CF Awareness Month, Cystic Fibrosis Australia will lead a range of national media and communications initiatives designed to raise awareness, share community stories, and highlight the realities of living with cystic fibrosis.

Across our website, social media channels, and media platforms, we will deliver 30 days of information, advocacy messages, lived experience stories, and opportunities for the wider community to learn more and show support.

These campaigns aim to increase understanding, amplify community voices, and drive meaningful conversations about access to care, research, and the future of cystic fibrosis in Australia.

your voice amplified

Hear from Dr Jo Armstrong, Chief Executive Officer of Cystic Fibrosis Australia, and Nathan Charles, CFA National Ambassador, as they share why awareness matters and how together we can create greater understanding of life with cystic fibrosis.

Check back throughout the month for more voices from across the community.

We are proud to share this article from Australian Health and Aged Care, co-written by Dr Jo Armstrong and our team member – Bianca Ferrari:  “After Care in Cystic Fibrosis: Insights from the National Data Registry.”

The registry is more than numbers and statistics. It is a powerful tool that helps ensure the experiences and needs of people living with CF continue to shape care, services, and future priorities across Australia.

Together, through advocacy, collaboration, and evidence informed action, we continue working toward a stronger future for the CF community.

Media

Throughout Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, important media stories, articles, and coverage helping raise awareness of cystic fibrosis will be shared on our social media channels and updated here on this page.

Check back regularly for the latest news, community stories, and campaign highlights throughout the month.
