This program is studying ABBV-191, a type of CFTR modulator called a potentiator. Once CFTR protein reaches the cell surface, potentiators help facilitate the opening of the chloride channel to allow chloride and sodium (salt) to move in and out of the cell. This helps maintain the right balance of salt and water onthe airway surface.
Laboratory studies to develop and test this compound are underway.
This program is sponsored by AbbVie and partially funded by Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
