Convicts for a Cause raises over $23,000 for CFWA
01/May/2007
On Friday April 27th twelve law-abiding citizens were locked up at the old Fremantle Prison as part of CFWA's Convicts for a Cause. They were confined to their small cells where some were lucky enough to have small wooden stools or a wire bed to sit on and spend a couple of gruelling hours contacting anyone they could to try and raise money for their bail.
CFWA would like to extend a huge thankyou to our "convicts" for giving up their time (and freedom) to help raise money for CFWA. A total of over $23,000 was raised which is an amazing effort.
Luke Walker, WA State Manager of LJ Hooker, deserves a special mention for raising the highest bail, a total of $4,400.00. Luke was presented with a 65 Roses Accommodation Package thanks to the Duxton Hotel, Perth.
Richard Foster from Melville Cares also deserves a mention for being the only convict who didn't know he was going to spend the morning behind bars. His staff at Melville Cares had secretly arranged police to arrest Richard and escort him to the prison where he spent the morning desparately trying to raise bail. Thanks to Richard for being such a good sport!
Millsy, 6PR Radio's breakfast show host, was also locked up and had some very loyal listeners who pledged to have him set free, especially after a live radio cross to him in his cell which resulted in him being yelled at by the dreaded Warden Colby! Millsy is pictured below trying to escape the Wardens.
The event was supported by Sonshine FM and their entire morning show hosted by Rodney Olsen was broadcast live from inside the prison. Pictured below is Rodney interviewing Mitch Messer on air about CF research.
The Honorable Dr. Carmen Lawrence also came to show her support and pledged to have the Mayor of Fremantle, Peter Tagliaferri, set free.
