CF drug to be added to the PBS
07/Jul/2011
Great news for people with CF!
Health Minister Nicola Roxon announced on the 21st June that 13 drugs would receive $200 million worth of subsidies under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) from September. One of these drugs is Tobi. This is great news for CF patients!
Tobi is an inhaled version of the antibiotic tobramycin that was created specifically for the treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in people with cystic fibrosis. Tobi reduces the amount of bacteria in the lungs, which can improve lung function and prevent long hospital stays. Tobi is for people over six years old with cystic fibrosis who have P.aeruginosa in their lungs.
This decision will significantly lower the cost for patients needing the drug. For further information please talk to your doctor.
