Lives Worth Living: Women's Experience of Chronic Illness

(Chronic Illness)

Marris, V., London, Pandora-Harper Collins Publishers, 1996

Veronica Marris is a British woman diagnosed with diabetes at age 27 who couldn't find the resources and support she needed so she started her own self-help group. She was overwhelmed by the response of other women in similar situations and by the universality of their experience. Gathering the narratives of many women with chronic illness, she compiled this comprehensive and extremely moving book. Much of the narratives involve issues surrounding "invisible" illness.
