"My Time" – Supporting Parents of children with disabilities

My Time groups provide local support for mums, dads, grandparents and anyone caring for a child under school age with a disability or chronic medical condition. These groups give parents a chance to socialise and share ideas with others who understand the rewards and intensity of the caring role. My Time works by bringing a group of carers together and getting them to choose topics to discuss and explore with their group facilitator, while a play helper keeps children busy and active. If you would like to learn more about these MY Time respite groups in your area please click here or if you would like to register your interest you can contact them directly on 1800 889 997 or via email mytime@parentingrc.org.au.

Baby Bridges

Baby bridges is a unique and innovative respite/therapy/playgroup program that’s provides parents/carers who have a child aged 0-5 who has a disability an opportunity not only for respite but also the chance to be part of an active learning environment. It aims to bridge the gap between parents/carers of young children with a disability, and supports in the community.

During this respite time, carers receive information, training and support in order to increase their capacity to care for their child now, and in the future. The children benefit from specialised play activities with input from qualified therapists.

The 6 week Baby Bridges course will run on consecutive Mondays from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Alexandra Hills Redlands over these dates:

• June 16th to July 21st 2008
• August 4th to September 8th 2008

By working closely with physiotherapists’ Apex can organize weekends away for you and your family which include a full time physio so you can have a well deserved break.

One family that has taken up this excellent opportunity is the Mayfields.
