Mothers Respite Weekend May 2011
A group of mothers gathered at the Royal Pacific Resort at Biggera Waters on the 28th & 29th May, 2011 for our Gold Coast mothers respite weekend enjoying the breathtaking beachfront views and a chance to unwind from life’s worries and commitments.
The mothers were treated to dinner and breakfast and were invited to take part in a therapeutic session designed to reflect on their experiences amongst mothers who share many similarities.
The mothers appreciated the chance to meet new mums and receive practical advice and tips about CF and associated issues. On the second day, we ventured to Harbourtown to source some bargains before heading home in the afternoon.
We received the below note from one of the mothers that attended.
To Dear Jane,Thank you so much for arranging our Mothers respite weekend, I had a great time.
Having a child with CF I don’t get too much time off from being carer/mum so this weekend was a perfect escape, to relax and to meet other mums in my position.
Having a one year old little boy with CF made me one of the less experienced Mums at the weekend which had its positives and negatives. All the other ladies had a lot of experience in CF so it gave me some insight to what our road may look like. But it too gave me a picture of how this road could look very bumpy.
It would have been nice to meet some more Gold Coast Mums as there were only two of us, but still great to meet some Mums from all over Queensland.
This weekend will not be my last as I have made some friendships that will last forever as these Mums really know what I go through each day having a CF child.
It was great to meet you too Jane and to hear your stories of a struggling CFQ and some inspirational stories that you have been fighting for.
Thanks again for such a wonderful weekend away; I look forward to the next one.
Kind regards
Heidi Basedow
Mum of Zach Hammond
Also I would love to thank Hannah for her little activity, it made us really think, it opened us up and showed how we are feeling.
