Mothers Respite Weekend - Noosa Escape 2011
It was great to attend the Mothers respite weekend in Noosa – this is my second respite weekend and agree with the girls that we all benefit so much from networking with each other. For me personally I love meeting a group of ladies that I have not necessarily met before yet have something very special in common with.
This weekend kicked off on Friday night with a “Pot luck dinner”, we all contributed with a dinner dish and washed it down with a wine; at this point 10 women took off in conversation about their “CF kids” and the trials and tribulations associated. At one point I looked around the room to find 11 women all talking at the same time and being women were also able to listen to the stories of others at the same time. Everyone agreed that it was therapeutic to hear each others stories and to get their own concerns off their chests.
Saturday was a relaxing day with a trip to the Eumundi markets for some retail therapy, followed by free time where some ladies relaxed in the spa and others took time to rest before heading out for dinner. It was so nice not to have to think about physio, Creon or nebs OR housework, mealtime or dishes.
On Sunday morning we were spoilt again when Jim, the manager of the resort cooked breakfast for us by the pool. This was the final get together where the conversation again was familiar to our own personal situation.
These weekends are fantastic to talk to other parents of kids who have varying degrees of illness about how they cope with day to day treatments and hospital admissions.
Thanks to all the mothers that attended, it was great to hear your stories and to be heard, see you at the next retreat. Thanks also goes to Liz for organising such a relaxing weekend, Jim at the Wolngarin Resort for your hospitality, and to CFQ for making these weekends possible – they really are revitalising.
Bring on the next one.
