History of CFQ
Cystic Fibrosis Queensland (CFQ) was founded in 1960 by concerned parents of children with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This was at a time when very little was known about CF worldwide and even less was known in Australia.
These motivated parents decided to take the lead from the American Foundation and form an organisation to provide information to families and medical people in the hope that this would assist in keeping theirs and other children alive for as long as possible.
In Australia any information people obtained was through their own efforts or with the help of their family doctor. The reality was most children that had CF were undiagnosed and as a result died very young with few surviving to their teenage years and the family usually did not know why.
