Quest Century Charity Ride
Participant Information
BACKGROUND
The committee is made up of a group of Sunshine Coast business people, who believe there are a lot of like minded people in businesses on the Coast, who would love nothing more than to take up a cycling challenge to raise money for needy charities. There are any number of charities who are suffering from reduced government grants and are struggling to raise funds in tough economic conditions. The group behind the idea are utilising their business networks and interest in cycling to create an event that other riders can get involved in and raise money at the same time.
In 2011, the inaugural year of the event, the ride will aim to raise in excess of $20,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland who are currently grossly underfunded by the government. In addition, the effects of the Global Financial Crisis and recent natural disasters CFQ's fund raising efforts are not providing the funds they need to be able to maintain services to locals with cystic fibrosis. It is hoped this ride will help to raise funds that will enable the organization to maintain its current levels of support to families of cystic fibrosis sufferers.
THE EVENT
In 2011 the event will be held on Saturday, 18 June commencing at a central point on the Sunshine Coast at 8.30 am. Participants will be cyclists of sufficient ability to ride in excess of 100 kms at a moderate tempo. It will not be suited to novices but with the support of a “sag wagon” and experienced cyclists, relative newcomers will be able to participate and comfortably complete the course.
COURSE
Day One
The precise course to be taken will be circulated to participants who sign up for the challenge in the lead up to the event. Once it has been formally approved by the Department of Roads and the police, participants, will be advised of the route. The route will take in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, traverse the hinterland range and on Day 1 will end at Noosa. It is expected that the first stage will require cyclist to travel about 100 – 120 kms through undulating and often hilly terrain.
The final route is being finalised and will be made available shortly.
Day Two
Travel will resume at 6.30am for the return trip to Kawana. The second day will be much less taxing for the cyclists as it is a relatively flat stage and only about 55 – 60km in length.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation for Saturday night has been arranged at the Nautilus Noosa. Click here for more information on the Nautilus.
PARTICIPANT COST
Participants will not be required to pay a nomination fee but must give a commitment to raise a minimum of $750 for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland by the time that the event is conducted. It does not matter whether this is raised through hundreds of small donations, one or two corporate donations, or is paid from the participants own resources. Where sponsors are paying a donation for a particular participant, that donation can be made directly to Cystic Fibrosis Queensland who will provide a tax deductible receipt. You can also raise funds via the Everyday Hero’s link which we will send you when you confirm you would like to be involved.
GENERAL INFORMATION AND CONDITIONS
The event will be organized each year under the banner and authority of the charity that the ride will be raising funds for. The charity chosen as the beneficiary each year will be required to agree that they do not acquire any intellectual property in the event and acknowledge that from year to year, the chosen beneficiary may change. The charity selected however, must be a registered charity.
The event organizers will secure necessary approvals for the course to be ridden, however, participants will be required to sign a Release and Indemnity to acknowledge that they participate at their own risk and release the organizers and the charity from any and all liability.
The event organizers will arrange for a sponsoring cycle shop to provide a follow vehicle which will be available to carry one overnight bag or each participant and a supply of additional tubes, tyres and pumps. A cycling shop has been offered an opportunity to take a sponsorship on the condition that they also provide any necessary mechanical assistance, and that has been accepted by Pro Cycles at Caloundra.
The ride will be undertaken as a group and in the event of cyclist falling behind through hillier areas, the participants will be required to regroup at the top of nominated hills. Participant’s bags will be carried from the start point to Noosa and from Noosa to Kawana on Sunday morning the 19th of June. Participants are responsible for getting to and from the start and end points.
