CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF LOVE!
CFQ is celebrating its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of service to Queenslanders living with CF. From a small group of 45 parents the organization has grown to now care for over 800 clients and their families. From Humble beginnings in Annerley (Brisbane), CFQ has grown substantially over the years and now also boasts regional offices in Cairns and the Sunshine Coast.
Taking their lead from the American foundation, the initial group of parents decided to form an organization in 1960, in turn providing information about this disease to local families and the medical community. Their one hope: to help their children live as long as possible.
At this time in Australia, any information people obtained about CF was sourced through their own efforts or with the help of their family doctor. The sad reality was that most children who had CF often went undiagnosed, resulting in their death at a very young age with the family not knowing why.
Thanks to the initiative of CFQ and other associations during the last 50 years, there is now a significant understanding about this chronic illness, together with improved treatments and support services available to people living with CF. In fact, it is estimated that children now born with this degenerative condition, will live well into their 50's.
CFQ’s philosophy is a simple promise – ‘For the Love of Life’. As our CF community well understand, when you're living with CF every day matters. Hence CFQ has dedicated the past 50 years to working with our clients and ensuring each of these days is the best it can be.
CEO of CFQ, Jane Andersen, said, 'Our vision is a world in which people in the CF community have lives unaffected by CF. We have every intention that CFQ will be around for the next 50 years to ensure our clients realize their full potential!'
