Personal Trainer
The health benefits of an active lifestyle are widely recognised for everyone, but studies have shown that regular exercise is especially important for people with cystic fibrosis, because it can:
- Increase lung capacity
- Improve airway clearance (helping to prevent/reduce respiratory infections)
- Increase strength and endurance
- Increase life expectancy
- Increase energy
- Increase bone density and prevent bone loss
- Improve motivation and mental attitude
We hope that soon we can begin to trial a new program designed to improve health and fitness levels for adults with CF who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to otherwise access such activities. Those who qualify will be referred to the program by health professional staff at their regular CF Clinic. A qualified Personal Trainer will then assess their fitness levels, devise a suitable exercise program and support and monitor their progress over a 6-month period.
At the end of six months, an evaluation will be made to assess the improvement in their health and fitness, as well as their ability and motivation to continue with the program on their own.
