“Well I made it over the line - think in about 2hours and 5 mins... Bit of jogging here and there. Feeling it today - Worth it as it was such a great feeling getting over that finish line, something I have always wanted to do, and was so great to accomplish it. Really makes me feel that Cystic Fibrosis isn't the end of the world... Bring on next year!!!!” Pru McGuire
“Sunday’s race was a great success despite the bad weather! I'm so glad to have the opportunity to raise money for CF and look forward to any opportunities which may arise in the future. Having, so far, 25 years of support from the foundation with my personal battle with CF, I feel like it is the least I can do to continue to spread the word and donations towards care, treatments and even a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Participating in the City2Surf was not only a means for personal motivation to keep fit and healthy, but also an event in which I hope I can deliver encouragement for young kids with CF, their parents and family. I know that for my parents and for myself as a child, reading articles in the CF Connections newsletter definitely opened our eyes to the possibilities, potentials and achievements that are still within arms reach despite having CF. Sure we may need to reach a little harder and pop a few more pills along the way, but CF is only as restrictive as you let it be. Every person I have met with CF has this same positive outlook on life and the same motivation to not let CF stop us from doing what we want to do - even if we may have to go about it in a slightly different way, and I will do whatever I can to ensure that this positivity continues to spread...” Deahne Cleary
We would also like to thank Kimberley Livingstone for sharing her beautiful and inspiring story with the Channel 7 Sunrise crew. After receiving a double lung transplant two years ago, Kimberley decided to take the challenge of running the 14kms with her sister. As she said: “I don’t have time to sit around now. I’ve got a beautiful gift and I have to use it.”
Congratulations to all of you who took the challenge of running the City2Surf 2011!
City2Surf 2012 will be on Sunday August 12.
