Janssen-Cilag Australia & New Zealand, the distributors of PANCREASE capsules, has recently informed the Cystic Fibrosis community that it will be experiencing supply problems for this drug for the remainder of 2005. Normal supply of Pancrease, a pancreatic enzyme supplementation, is expected to resume by the start of 2006. The company considers its first responsibility to be the health and safety of patients that use it’s products, and as such will be doing everything possible to minimise the impact on patients.

Janssen-Cilag has proactively contacted Cystic Fibrosis Clinics and Cystic Fibrosis national offices in both Australia and New Zealand to make sure patients have as much warning as possible. Furthermore, the firm is encouraging users of PANCREASE capsules to investigate their options for switching to an alternative product. For those patients that cannot tolerate an alternative product they should consult their doctors and where necessary ask their pharmacist to make contact with Janssen-Cilag Customer Service Department on 02 9878 9269 (Sydney Metro) or 1800 252 194 (outside Sydney Metro area) to investigate accessing an emergency supply of the medication.
