“STATEMENT FROM SOLVAY PHARMACEUTICALS – AUSTRALIA”
Cystic Fibrosis Australia have contacted Solvay, manufacturer of the most commonly prescribed enzyme. They are aware of the situation and we have agreed to forward the following statement from them:
‘It is common practice in the pharmaceutical industry to remove excipients that are under any kind of discussion or suspicion as science or technology advances, even if they are considered safe. In order to exclude any concerns of patients Solvay has developed and submitted a Dibutylphtalate-free formulation which currently undergoes regulatory approval worldwide. Depending on regulatory processes some countries already approved the new Dibutylphtalate-free formulation and thus this formulation is subsequently made available in those countries , in other countries the regulatory process is still ongoing and after finalization Solvay will make the new formulation available in these countries as well.’
