Our SUPER Intern Carina

The past three months, Cystic Fibrosis Australia has been blessed with the presence of a young talented intern named Carina. She has had some big shoes to fill, and has done it with grace and ability. We were truly lucky to Carina with us for the past few weeks. Those in the Great Escape, or running for us in the City2Surf have probably had contact with her already.
Carina is visiting Australia to get some work experience in the not for profit industry, and so far has enjoyed every single minute of it. Originally hailing from Austria, she is here till the 20th of August at which time she’ll be off on a whirlwind tour of Australia.
We greatly thank Carina for all her fantastic hard work at Cystic Fibrosis Australia. She will be missed.
Carina sits down with us to answer some questions.
Question: You’ve lived in several places in Europe, including Austria and the United Kingdom. What’s the biggest difference that you’ve noticed between that and Australia?
Answer: Australians are very welcoming, open minded, extremely helpful and quite laid back. I haven’t experienced that in Europe to such an extent... They also appear to be free of class prejudice. People don’t seem to be concerned about where you are from, what your job position is or which school you went to, everyone is treated equally. An attitude I’d like to see in Austria and other European countries.
Question: Where are you visiting, when you tour around Australia? What are you most looking forward to?
Answer: There are a lot of places I’d like to visit in Australia, it’s a shame I haven’t got enough time. I’ll be heading down to Melbourne, do the Great Ocean Road and fly to Cairns after. From there I’ll make my way down to Brisbane by bus. I’m planning on going to see Daintree Rainforest, which I’m very excited about. Also can’t wait to go sailing around the Whitsundays.
Question: What do you hope to do with the experiences that you have gained here?
Answer: Through the internship at CFA I got a chance to gain a better understanding in the field of fundraising, how NGOs work and also the event management side of it. This will help me for my future studies in international development. Besides that, getting to know a different country and its culture and meeting so many great people from all over the world broadens your horizon and will always benefit you in your personal development as well as in business life.
