State/Territory Government Concessions

There are a range of Concessions available to individuals in the ACT who have a Health Care Card (HCC) or Pensioner Concession Card (PCC). Information relating to ACT residents can be found on the Assistance website. We have also listed the NSW equivalent where relevant here, however some of the eligibility may vary. 


Here is a list of Concessions you may be eligible for and where to access them:

 ACT Government Concessions

  1. Energy/Utility Concession
    For electricity and natural gas. The annual rebate in 2016-16 is $338.21. Different rebate rates for summer and winter periods, calculated on a daily basis. Rebate is calculated before GST. Rebate for electricity and gas linked through your electricity account. Contact your provider. 
  2. Drivers Licence Concession
    1 year discounted from licence fee. Administered as a discount over the counter on purchase.

  3. Car Registration Concession
    $10 surcharge fee not payable. Administered as a discount over the counter on purchase.

  4. Spectacle Subsidy Scheme
    Subsidy for one pair of spectacles over a 24 month period. Co-payment required from individual of $22. Must have been in receipt of concession card for at least 3 months. Only selected optometrists are registered under the scheme. Applications conducted through optometrist provider.

  5. Public Transport Concessions (ACTION buses)
    Half priced travel for myway and cash fares. Application via form to be presented at a Canberra Connect Shopfront.

  6. Dental Scheme
    Free dental services. Emergency dental services also available Mon-Fri and limited Sat. Appointments through ACT Dental Health Program Services

  7. Medical Equipment Scheme
    Available to concession card holders that do not receive comparable government scheme assistance or private health schemes OR either. must also meet low income criteria.

  8. Interstate Patient Travel Assistance Scheme (IPTAS)
    Provides assistance towards travel and accommodation expenses incurred when
    referred interstate for medical treatment that is 100km+ from your home. This is a reimbursement program. Should you require assistance to make the trip contact

NSW Concessions

  1. Medical Energy Rebate
    Provision due to demonstrated significant loss of automatic regulation of sweating. PCC or HCC holder must be named on the account, with an electricity retailer of their choice. Rebate of $235 (exc. GST) a year. Visit the website for more information.

  2. Car Registration Concession
    For PCC holder. 1 vehicle only per year. Administered as a discount over the counter on purchase.

  3. Public Transport Concessions
    PCC holders are entitled to concessions travel on many NSW public transport services.

  4. Public Oral Health Service
    Free dental services. Emergency dental services also available Mon-Fri and limited Sat.
    It should be noted that although the broad eligibility criteria may be met, limited resources and availability may result in waiting times to access care.

  5. Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme (IPTAAS)
    Provides assistance towards travel and accommodation expenses incurred when
